Examine Yourselves
Updated: Oct 20, 2020
2 Cor 13:5: Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?
To the one who stands on his own performance, this is a frightening verse.... we aren't to examine ourselves to see if we are in sin. Paul is reinforcing what we should already know -- don't you know Christ is IN you?
They didn’t even examine themselves under the Old Covenant.....the priest examined the lamb, he didn't examine the people! It was a prophetic shadow of a new reality. We are to examine the Lamb!
I love the Mirror Translation of 2 Cor 13:5: "I implore you to examine faith for yourselves in order to test what it is that you really believe. Faith is so much more than the mere version of a superstitious belief in a historic Christ; faith is about realizing Jesus Christ in you, the midst of contradiction! Just as ore is placed into a crucible, where the dross is separated from the gold in a furnace, come to the conclusion for yourselves of His indwelling! Should it appear to you that Christ is absent in your life, look again, you have obviously done the test wrong!"
